A list of journalism associations

Landing a newspaper internship is a year-round process, not a flurry of activity late one night in the winter. The biggest mistake people make is waiting too long to look for summer internships.

Even after 25 years as a newsroom manager, I pitch ideas that never make it to the plate. When that happens, I have to try someone else, or go back, re-evaluate what I’m pitching and try again.

Politics is the stuff they don’t teach you in college. You need to know about them — and manage them well — to succeed in any newsroom.
